Like we have already said in one of our previous post, truffle taste can vary depending where it was harvested from. And that’s one of the beauty for any truffle lover – not all the truffles taste the same. Taste of Istrian black truffle for example can be described as woody or earthy with a slight mushroom taste. (Hurst & Rutherford, 1991) once said, Tuber aestivum has a sweet scent and nutty taste. For others, musky, garlick-y, sulphurous, and funky are more appropriate words to describe truffle in general. Like mold. Garlic. Natural gas. Cheesey. Oniony but not oniony. Cabbagey. Earthy. Heavenly. (2) These are some of the words that have been used to describe the aroma and taste of the white truffle, Tuber magnatum, one of the most expensive foods in the world.
All descriptions of truffle taste are probably half true or precise. For sure the complex stew of compounds in a truffle helps create its unique and unforgettable taste. What word would you use to describe truffle taste?
